What was the result of the conclusion of the union between Lithuania and Poland?

The result of the union was the creation in 1569 of a new state – the Commonwealth. It became one of the largest in Europe (after Russia and the Ottoman Empire, and the latter had many territories in Asia), France and Spain could compete with it in terms of territory (its possessions then included the Netherlands, Sardinia, Sicily).

The Commonwealth lasted until 1795. She was Russia’s main military rival until 1667, when she suffered a heavy defeat. After the death of Jan Sobieski, it became ruled by the Saxon princes (period from 1698 to 1764).

At the end of the 16th century, the strengthening of Catholic influence on the lands of Ukraine and Belarus began, and Uniatism appeared (since 1596).
