What was the setting in England in the 17th century?

In the first half of the 17th century, since 1603, the Stuart dynasty ruled in England, kings James and Charles, the latter was overthrown during the revolution of the 1640s and beheaded in 1649, a unique case for Europe at that time and the history of England as a whole.

In the 1650s, for a short period in its history, England was a republic, ruled by the Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell. After his death, there was a coup and restoration of the Stuart dynasty. However, its second king, James II, was overthrown in 1688 during an event that went down in history as the “Glorious Revolution”. In England, the landing of the Dutch army landed and William of Orange of the Netherlands became the king of the country.

Despite this, throughout the 17th century, England developed in a positive way. She had new colonies in North America and India, the fleet strengthened and by the end of the century it had become the strongest in the world, even stronger than the Dutch. The English Revolution contributed to the development of capitalism.
