What was the significance of the Cluny Reform?

Cluny Reform – a movement for the reform of monastic life in the Catholic Church in the 10-11th centuries. The center of this movement was the Cluny Abbey, hence the name of the movement. The reform resulted in the formation of a powerful congregation of a large number of monasteries in Western Europe. The congregation was headed by the Abbey of Cluny. Also, the result of the reform is the strengthening of the papal authority of the Roman Catholic Church. Thanks to the Cluny Reform, scriptorium libraries were opened in the monasteries. The Cluny Reform became the basis for the creation of the Gregorian calendar.
