What were Germany and England IX-XI like?

At the beginning of the 9th century, Germany was almost entirely part of the empire of Charlemagne. After its collapse, the East Frankish state was formed on the territory of Germany. In the 10th century, on the basis of this kingdom, Otto I declared the Holy Roman Empire.

England in the 9th century was a weak and fragmented country. There were seven separate kingdoms on the island, which were subjected to devastating attacks by the Vikings. At the beginning of the 11th century, the Vikings finally captured the entire island, one of them – William the Conqueror – and at the end of the 11th century created a single kingdom there.
