What were the differences between the populations of Athens and Sparta? How can these differences be explained?

In those ancient times, Sparta was very different from Athens, and therefore, wars were often fought between them. First, there was a democracy in Athens, and a king ruled in Sparta. Secondly, Sparta was a military state, and Greece was a democratic one – there all issues were resolved at a popular meeting. In addition, the Spartans were greatly deepened in their military traditions, which also made a difference in the way of life of the population of these two states.
