What were the differences in the views of Westerners and Slavs?

Westerners and Slavophiles are movements of the liberal intelligentsia from 1860 to 1880. Their views coincided in many ways, but they saw differently the further development of Russia and its path. Westerners spoke positively about the reforms of Peter the Great and did not see progressivity in the actions of the rulers of the pre-Petrine era. They gravitated towards the Western model of development and sought to steer the country on the European path. The Slavophiles criticized Peter I and took the pre-Petrine era as their ideal. They called Russia a distinctive country.
