What were the main changes that took place in the country during the years of perestroika?

During the perestroika period, a multi-party system was allowed, so the CPSU was divided into several currents: traditional, radical and moderate renovation. The electoral system has changed: it has become democratic. A course was taken towards publicity, people were able to be informed about what was happening. Independent newspapers and magazines appeared. Religion began to spread (during the period of repression, there were persecutions).
