What were the main occupations of the inhabitants of the Phoenician cities?

Phoenicians inhabited the eastern Mediterranean coast. The lack of land suitable for agriculture determined the activities of this people. Most of the population was engaged in cattle breeding and gardening. Olive oil, dates, grapes were highly valued in foreign markets. Trade within the state and abroad developed successfully. Fishing and various types of molluscs also gave a lot of income to Phoenician merchants. Skillful sailors – the Phoenicians were engaged not only in the transportation of goods, but also robbed in the sea waters. The Phoenicians exported Lebanese cedar and oak timber abroad. Of the crafts, the most famous are jewelry and glass-blowing.
