What were the military tactics of the Romans?

1. The use in battle of sound or other signals by which the legionnaires performed a certain maneuver on the battlefield.

2. Before a head-on collision with the enemy, the legionaries threw spears (pilums), which killed, maimed opponents, and also deprived them of their shields.

3. The infantry acted in close formation, using the advantages of their weapons (heavy shields almost to their full height and short swords).

5. Various formations were used, depending on the goal or the enemy (testudo, circle, wall of shields).
