By the middle of the 19th century, the Russian Empire managed to gain access to the Black Sea, and thus expand its trade influence there. A new goal has appeared: to get the straits of the Bosphorus and Dardanelles, so that you have access to the Mediterranean Sea without any problems. The Russian Empire declared war on the Ottoman Empire under the pretext of “Liberation of the Orthodox people from the oppression of Muslims.” At first, everything went well: after victories at sea, the Russian army marched to Constantinople and began to bomb it under direct fire from artillery. But France and England, realizing the rate of growth of the power of Russia, stood up for Turkey and, having the best technology, won. As a result, the Russian Empire signed a peace treaty in which it pledged not to maintain a navy in the Black Sea and renounced its influence in the Balkans.
