What will happen if there are no plants on Earth?

Plants are the whole kingdom of living beings, an integral part of the entire biosphere of the Earth. They are autotrophs, that is, they synthesize organic substances from inorganic ones with the help of sunlight (in the process of photosynthesis), and in biocenoses they are producers – those who store solar energy and transfer it to other trophic levels. If the plants disappeared, this would lead to a catastrophe: plants are practically the only producers on the planet, most food chains begin with them – consumers of the first order (herbivores) would begin to starve, which would lead to their mass death, carnivores would be the next to suffer ( consumers of the second and third order). Among other things, plants in the process of photosynthesis absorbed excess carbon dioxide and gave off oxygen. Without them, this process will be significantly reduced, which will globally change the Earth’s atmosphere. Plants are able to cleanse the air of harmful impurities, and now this function will be lost. Trees retain water in forests, strengthen the soil, are symbionts with many living organisms, they are a habitat for birds and animals. If the plants disappear, then life on Earth is likely to disappear.
