What work is done when a crane lifts a 10 ton load to a height of 30m?

Work characterizes the action of a force applied to the body to move it. Its value is determined by the formula A = F * S,

where A is work, F is force, S is displacement (moreover, the direction of the force and displacement of the body here coincide (otherwise, when the force acts on the body at a certain angle a, it is necessary to take into account the projection of the force (its value) onto the axis of displacement of the body, and the formula takes the form:
A = F * S * cos a).

In our case, the crane lifts the load vertically upward, the force of its mechanism is applied to the body to overcome the gravity of the body, that is, its weight, which is determined through the ratio F = mg, where m is the body mass, g is the acceleration of gravity (we will round it for convenience up to 10 m / s²).

Thus, the expression for finding the completed work takes the form –

A = 10,000 kg * 10 m / s² * 30 m = 3,000,000 N * m or 3000 kN * m or 3000 kJ. We found the value of the work performed by the crane according to the conditions of our example.
