When a bar is pulled along the table surface by applying a horizontal force of 5H, it glides evenly across the table. What is the frictional force acting on the bar?
Uniform sliding of the bar on the table is ensured by the action of two forces on it:
– traction forces – F т. (with this force the bar is pulled over the surface),
– sliding friction forces – F tr.
F t. = -F tr.
The forces are equal in absolute value, but opposite in direction.
This means that the friction force will also be equal to 5N, but the vector of its action will be directed in the opposite direction.
