About two thousand years BC the tribes of the Amorites came to the territory of northern Mesopotamia, they conquered the Sumerians and Akkadians who were there. Then a small state arose with its center in the city of Babylon. This young Babylonian state existed from 1894 to 1595 BC. It reached its peak during the reign of King Hammurabi (1793-1750 BC). He was able to briefly strengthen the state and expand its borders. Hammurabi is also known for his “Code of Hammurabi”.
