When and how is a person’s sex determined?

The sex of an organism is determined by its genetic basis. Gender depends on the combination of genital CHROMOSOM. Mammals, which have a pair of sex chromosomes, have two types of chromosomes, X and Y. All eggs have one X chromosome, while a sperm cell can contain either an X or a Y chromosome. If the sperm fertilizing the OVULE contains an X chromosome, the Zygote receives and the organism developing from it will be XX, or female. If the egg is fertilized by a sperm carrying the Y chromosome, the zygote will be XY, or male.
