When and why did the hetman coup take place?

The coup d’etat in the Ukrainian People’s Republic took place on the night of April 29 to 390, 1918. Due to the fact that power passed to the hetman Pavel Skoropadsky, this coup was called the hetman’s.

The coup became possible, first of all, due to the fact that Skoropadsky was supported by Germany.

Secondly, the UPR government was never able to create an efficient army during its reign, so there was no one to defend the Central Rada during the coup.

Thirdly, the masses supported the hetman.

The unstable situation within the state also led to the fact that with the help of external intervention, Skoropadsky easily seized power.
