When does water act as a destructive environmental factor for living beings?

Water is essential for the life of all living things. But it can also become the cause of death and disappearance of many living organisms. For example – excess water and flooding can destroy a large number of plants, small animals, underground inhabitants, etc. During floods and tsunamis, the first to suffer are animals that are not able to leave their habitats on their own, or they simply have nowhere to run. In other cases, water cannot harm organisms. Only an excess or deficiency of this substance has negative consequences.
