When dried, mushrooms lose 80% of their mass. How much fresh mushrooms do you need to take to get 1 kg of dried?

1) Let’s designate for x kg the amount of fresh mushrooms that must be taken in order to get 1 kg of dry ones. Let’s take their number as 100%.

2) Let’s calculate how many percent of the mass of fresh mushrooms will be dry, if during the drying process the mushrooms lose 80% of their mass:

100 – 80 = 20%.

3) Let’s make a record:

1 kg – 20%;

x kg – 100%.

4) Let’s compose and solve the proportion:

1: x = 20: 100;

1 * 100 = x * 20;

20x = 100;

x = 100: 20;

x = 5.

5) We find out that it is necessary to take x = 5 kg of fresh mushrooms to get 1 kg of dry ones.

Answer: 5 kg.
