When dried, the grass loses 80% of its weight. Calculate how much hay will be obtained from a meadow of 12 hectares, if 5 tons of grass are obtained from each hectare.

First you need to find out how many tons of grass per 12 hectares of meadow
1 ha = 5 tons of grass
12 g = 5 • 12 = 60 tons of grass
Now we need to find out what will be the weight of the hay made from 60 tons of grass.
Knowing that when the grass is dried, it loses 80% of its weight, we need to find out what weight is 1%, and then subtract 80% from all 100%
1) 60 ÷ 100 = 0.6 (t) – 1% of the grass weight;
2) 0.6 • 80 = 48 (t) – 80%, which go away during drying;
3) 60 – 48 = 12 (t) – weight of hay, obtained from 60 tons of grass.
