When two two-digit numbers are divided, the quotient is 9 and the remainder is 8. What is the dividend?

We have two two-digit numbers. When dividing one by the second in the quotient we got 9, in the remainder – 8. Let’s find these numbers.

There are two ways to solve it.

1) First, let’s analyze a two-digit number. This is a number that contains two digits. All numbers range from 10 to 99.

Let’s omit the smallest number 10, and consider the number 11. If we multiply it by 9 and add 8, we get the number 107, which is no longer two-digit. Therefore, we can only consider the number 10.

10 * 9 + 8 = 98.

2) The second method is related to the first.

Let the smaller number be x.

10 <= x <= 99.

x * 9 + 8 <= 99;

9 * x <= 91;

x <= 10.11.

At the intersection of the inequalities, we find x = 10.
