Hannibal was considered a personal enemy of the Roman Republic. This brilliant commander showed his talent for leadership during the next conflict between Carthage and the Roman state, which began due to unresolved problems between the two powers on the Iberian Peninsula. His main victories were the defeat of the Roman consular armies in Italy. These were the famous battles of Trebia, Lake Trasimene and Cannes.
