Where and when did the states-general appear in France?

In 1302, the States General (French Etats Generaux) of France were created in Paris. They were of a class-constituent nature and existed until 1789.

The States-General included representatives of three social classes – the nobility, the clergy and the tax-paying class.

This body was convened by the king at critical moments in the history of France and was intended to secure the support of the entire society.
