Where did the ancient Romans live and what did they do?

The ancient Romans originally lived on the Apennine Peninsula. Later they settled in large areas. This was facilitated by campaigns of conquest. Over time, vast lands were conquered around the Mediterranean Sea. Western and Central Europe were conquered. Britain was also captured. From this we can safely conclude that a significant part of the Romans were in military service. The metropolis and colonies had to be governed. Part of the population performed administrative, legislative and judicial functions. The Romans were famous for their roads, architectural and hydraulic structures. Therefore, some of the Romans were engineers and builders. Naturally, initially there was gathering, hunting, fishing, which eventually transformed into agriculture and cattle breeding. Part of the population was slaves. They were from among the captured and from the Romans themselves.
