Where did the ancient Slavs settle?

As a result of resettlement, the ancient Slavs were divided into three branches: eastern, western and southern. The Eastern Slavs in the 6th century began to develop territories near the Dnieper and the Carpathian Mountains. More developed and warlike tribes crowded them, so they left for the eastern thickets and forests. They settled mainly near rivers and other bodies of water, because water was the most reliable and fastest means of transport. She also fed the population and allowed them to engage in agriculture. The Slavs occupied the northern and southern territories of the Western European Plain.
