Where did the Assyrians live?

At the beginning of the 1st millennium, the historical core of Assyria was located at the junction of the borders of modern Syria, Iraq and Turkey. The capital (Nineveh) was located in the northern part of Iraq.

During the period of expansion, they managed to expand their borders in the north to the southeast of modern Turkey, their northern border almost reached Lake Van (where they bordered on Urartu).

The eastern border ran from Lake Urmia to the southeast, that is, to modern Iran.

The southern border reached the Persian Gulf and the Elam region in southwestern Iran.

The southwestern border has reached Gaza and Jerusalem. Thus, they controlled the entire eastern Mediterranean coast.
