Where did the coronation of Charlemagne take place?

Charlemagne (or Charles the First) was the Frankish king (from 764 to 814) and the first emperor of the Roman Empire (from 800), one of the most powerful rulers of that time.

At the request of the Pope in 799, Charles went to Rome to deal with the problems of the local nobility, and soon order was finally established in the city. In January 800, the Pope and Charles attend the Christmas service at St. Peter’s Basilica. So the king of the Franks and Lombards became the Roman emperor

It was partly a political move: the Pope could not do without help from the secular authorities, and only Charlemagne could provide it and make the situation more advantageous, and both sides knew this.

Immediately after the coronation, the emperor began to equip and improve the Frankish state and intended to turn it into a “second Rome”. This time was the dawn of his empire.

In 803, the Saxon tribe (for a long time Karl was at war with them) recognized the power of Charles the First, which caused the division of the borders of the Western Roman Empire.
