Where do geysers form?

Water seeping through the ground in volcanic areas can be heated by hot rocks. If water flows out freely, a hot spring forms on the surface, if it collects among the stones and boils, a geyser is born. The heated water turns into steam. Steam is thrown upward, carrying water with it in the form of a boiling fountain.
