Where do organisms get energy from in the process of life?

The cells of any organism require a constant supply of energy to maintain normal life and life in general. This energy comes from the chemical bond between food molecules that fuel cells. Sugars are particularly important fuel molecules and they oxidize in small steps to carbon dioxide and water. The breakdown of glucose dominates energy production in most animal cells. A very similar pathway also works in plants, fungi and many bacteria.
