Where does the main and final digestion of food take place?

Different processes occur with food in the human body as it passes through the digestive system:
food is digested in the mouth, stomach and small intestine;
digested food is absorbed into the bloodstream in the small intestine;
excess water is absorbed back into the body in the large intestine;
any undigested food comes out of the anus.
The liver produces bile, which helps in the digestion of lipids (fats and oils). The pancreas produces enzymes that speed up digestive reactions.
