Where is the speed of sound greater – in water or air?

Propagation speed varies with density. It is worth noting that with a higher density of a substance or object, the propagation speed is greater, and with a lower density, it is less. But this is a little strange, it would seem that everything should be exactly the opposite. The density of water is greater than that of air, therefore, the velocity of propagation will be greater for water. The most widespread will be metals, or expensive stones, which have a record density.
