Where is the wettest and driest spot on mainland South America?

Both the driest and wettest parts of the continent of South America are located at the foot of the Andes mountain range. The driest part is the Atacama Desert, which lies between the Andes (western slope) and the Pacific Ocean. There, due to ocean currents, humid winds do not blow and there is almost no precipitation.
And the wettest part, where almost 10,000 mm of rain falls a year, is located on the eastern slope of the Andes, near the equator, where warm ocean winds bring a lot of moisture.
