Where on earth does the magnetic compass “fail”?

The principle of the compass is based on the action of magnetic fields in relation to the magnetic compass needle. Since the magnetic needle of the compass is parallel to the direction of the Earth’s magnetic field, the compass will not work if you are at the North or South Pole of the Earth. The magnetic needle will point in any direction, as the magnetic lines diverge at these poles. Also, the compass will be mistaken in the place where there is interference due to nearby magnetic objects. These can be radios, medical equipment, and even magnetic anomalies.
