Which line is called a secant with respect to a circle?

A straight line passing through two points of a circle is called a secant. Thus, through any two points of the circle, you can draw only one secant. The secant divides the circle into two semicircles.
A section of a secant that lies inside a circle is called a chord. As the secant approaches the center of the circle, the length of the chord increases. The chord passing through the center of the circle is called the diameter.
