Which of the listed substances will sulfuric acid react with: barium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, copper sulfate, magnesium oxide, sodium silicate.
Solution to the problem: sulfuric acid will react with 1) barium hydroxide (to form water-insoluble barium sulfate and water); 2) magnesium oxide (to form magnesium sulfate and water) and 3) sodium silicate (to form water-insoluble silicic acid):
1) H2SO4 + Ba (OH) 2 = BaSO4 (precipitate) + 2H2O;
2) H2SO4 + MgO = MgSO4 + H2O;
3) H2SO4 + Na2SiO3 = H2SiO3 (precipitate) + Na2SO4.
