The main process that occurs in a plant and has biospheric significance is photosynthesis. The organ in which it occurs is a sheet. The leaf cells contain plastids (chloroplasts), which contain the pigment chlorophyll, which is able to capture quanta of sunlight. Thanks to chlorophyll, plants are green.
