Christopher Columbus was one of the first navigators in human history to successfully cross the ocean. The route of his expedition, basically, passed along the coastline of Europe and Asia. Columbus sought to find a way to Asian countries, circling the globe from the west. Since then there was no information about the real size of the planet and the location of other continents, Columbus thought that the shores of Asia were on the other side of the Atlantic. And, having discovered America, he believed until the end of his life that it was India.
