Who came up with the idea of the Crusades?

The Pope and the Catholic Church came up with this idea. So at the end of the 11th century, the first major crusade to the east was organized. The main goal of this campaign was the liberation of the Holy Sepulcher, that is, the capture of Jerusalem. Naturally, many kings and rams had their own goals. They didn’t care deeply about the religious zeal of the church. For them, the main thing was gold and land.
