The intermediate hosts of the liver fluke are the freshwater snail and various species of freshwater fish. Infection of the final host, which may be a human, occurs when eating raw fish. In some species of fluke, land snails and ants are intermediate hosts; the animal becomes infected by eating grass with an ant.
