Who was the first to reach the shores of Australia?

The existence of the southern continent has long been legendary, but for Europeans it was only discovered at the beginning of the seventeenth century. Officially, the Dutch were the first to discover Australia. The expedition was led by Admiral Willem Janszon (or Jans) in 1606. However, the Dutch did not begin to develop the territory of the continent, but kept its existence secret. There is a version that the Spaniards or the Portuguese sailed to this continent earlier during the development of the Indian Ocean islands, but there is no documentary evidence of this.
