Who was the leader of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956?

It was Imre Nagy. He was the ideological inspirer of the Hungarian Revolution. Initially, he was a supporter of democratic reforms in the country, as well as in the Communist Party, which at that time became, in fact, the only legal and most powerful force in the country. In 1953-55, he was the prime minister of the Hungarian People’s Republic, but he had to leave in view of his irreconcilable convictions of democratic transformations. During the uprising, he also became prime minister for a time, but was defeated. He died two years later, was hanged.
