Who were called knights and how did they become?

In the Middle Ages, only a person of noble birth who lived in the territory of the ancient Germans or Franks could be called a knight. These were people united by a common agricultural or military craft. They had their own laws and regulations. Under the influence of the church, the role of chivalry was strengthened. Dedication took place at the age of 21 with the presentation of weapons on major church holidays.
After equipping with firearms, strengthening the position of the infantry over the cavalry army, chivalry acquired state influence. Now a knight could be called not only a descendant of aristocrats, but also a nobility with political power.
