Why are amphibians adapted to life in water and on land?

Adaptations for life in water: bare skin with glands for skin breathing, sliding, contains a bactericidal substance, hind limbs with membranes.
Adaptations for life on land: the appearance of the lungs (poorly developed), eyelids in the eyes, a membrane on the organ of hearing, lever-type limbs, the appearance of several parts of the spine.
