Why are folded mountain belts located, as a rule, on the outskirts of continents?

It’s actually very easy to explain. The fact is that mountain belts are located only at the junctions of lithospheric plates. That is why most of the mountain ranges are at the edge of continents. But the Himalayan ridge, which is located in Eurasia, is an exception and is located in the center of the continent. Folded belts are a tectonic structure due to which ancient belts are separated from each other, as well as from the ocean. Also, the development of these folded forms is characterized by the appearance of earthquakes.
