An endocrine gland is a ductless gland and a secretion called a hormone is released directly into the bloodstream. The pancreas, with islets of Langerhans, secretes the hormone insulin, which converts glucose into glycogen, into the blood, and the gonads (in males – testes, in females – ovaries) secrete hormones estradiol (female) and testosterone (male) into the blood.
