Why aren’t natural and synthetic rubbers resistant to bromine?

Natural and synthetic rubbers have in their structure two conjugated double bonds (pi bonds), that is, they are unsaturated compounds. When bromine acts on such a compound, the reaction of addition of bromine to the 1,4 position will occur, and rubbers will lose their elastic properties. This is why rubbers are not resistant to bromine.
