Why at home hedgehogs do not always hibernate. How can this affect their condition?

Falling asleep of hedgehogs with the arrival of cold weather is associated with their imperfect thermoregulation – they simply cannot maintain their life during the winter. Therefore, during the warm season, hedgehogs actively accumulate fat in order to then use it up during hibernation. The animal understands that it is time for him to fall asleep as the temperature of nature drops. At home, in the apartment, the temperature is constant, so the hedgehog does not understand that he needs to fall asleep. This can have a very negative effect on the health of the hedgehog, up to its death, if the animal completely ignores hibernation. To prevent this from happening, experienced owners prepare a box with bedding for the hedgehog and place it in a cold place. With the onset of spring, we will move the box to a warm place, recreating its native, natural conditions for the hedgehog.
