Why can gymnosperms grow in arid places?

Gymnosperms were formed under conditions when the climate on our planet changed in the direction of decreasing moisture and decreasing temperature. Therefore, most of the spore plants died out, since they did not have the opportunity to retain moisture and they needed water to reproduce. In gymnosperms (conifers):
– well-developed root system:
– the leaves have reduced the area of evaporation of water;
– no water is needed for the fertilization process;
– seeds can endure unfavorable conditions for a long time, maintaining their viability.
