Why can Herodotus be called the first geographer?

Because he traveled a lot. In his youth he fought against tyranny and was forced to leave Halicarnassus. He visited Asia Minor. Babylon, Cyrene, Egypt, the Black Sea coast, up to Olbia (On the Dnieper-Bug estuary) and other places. He wrote a book dedicated to Greco-Persian wars, but it tells a lot about the history of countries, geography, customs and customs of local residents.
