Why can’t blood get from the ventricle to the atrium?

Heart valves are one-way valves that theoretically prevent blood from flowing back through the heart. You may have a “leaky valve” that allows some blood to flow back, but for most people, blood flow can only flow in one direction (if the valves are damaged from infection, structural or other changes, blood can flow back from the ventricle to the atrium).
