Why can’t you study opaque objects with a light microscope?

The light microscope is so named because it has a lamp that emits light that passes through the glass slide and contains a preparation (for example, a piece of onion skin, a smeared drop of blood or saliva). If we put an opaque object on the glass slide, we will simply see a black spot.
